Gun dog training develops retrieving skills on land and
water. Dogs are first trained in obedience and are then taught to hold and forced fetched
trained. Upon completion of force fetching, dogs go into the field and are
placed in actual hunting situations with live birds. The dogs are run
through decoys, in and out of a boat, a hunting blind, and various types
of cover. Final finishing
includes steadying to shot, improved marking, lengthening to retrieve and
confidence building. We work primarily with Labradors, however, we have
worked with Chesapeakes, Goldens, and
many of the Spaniel breeds.
We also offer Upland work for your
retriever. This is something a good started retriever enjoys, and has
become increasingly popular with Labrador owners. We work the dogs on
live Quail, Chukar, and Pheasant.
Our started program usually takes about 12-16 weeks. We prefer pups to be at least 6 months old before
beginning our gun dog training program.
